Adopted Budget

A plain-English definition of adopted budget and when this site should use that label.

Last updated: 2026-05-19

Independent and unofficial. Source-linked term.

An adopted budget is a final budget version after the governing body has completed formal action.

This site uses the label carefully. Montgomery County sources often use “approved” for final budget documents, so a figure should not be labeled adopted unless an official source supports that exact status or equivalent final adoption has been verified.

Why It Matters

Version labels protect residents from comparing a proposal with a final budget as if they were the same thing.

Common Misunderstanding

Adopted and recommended are not interchangeable. If final adoption is not verified from an official source, this site should not use the adopted label for a figure.
